Celebrating National Pi Day in Mrs. Cannon's 8th Grade Classes! On March 14th, Mrs. Cannon's math classes took a delicious detour from their usual curriculum to celebrate National Pi Day! Students enjoyed a fun-filled class of pie-themed activities and, of course, plenty of tasty treats to commemorate the mathematical constant π (pi), approximately equal to 3.14. National Pi Day has been celebrated since 1988, when physicist Larry Shaw initiated the tradition at the San Francisco Exploratorium. The date, 3/14, corresponds to the first three digits of pi, making it a perfect opportunity for math enthusiasts to indulge in this unique holiday. Pi is not only a crucial element in geometry, representing the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, but it also appears in various mathematical and scientific contexts. As students explored measuring multiple 3D objects they engaged in lively discussions about the significance of pi and its applications in real life. The event fostered a sense of community in the classroom, blending learning with enjoyment in a way that math rarely gets to shine. Do you know the volume of Chocolate that is used to make up a Hershey’s kiss? Check out our class photos capturing the joy and creativity of our Pi Day celebration!

Seminole County Middle/High School's CTI students had the incredible opportunity to participate in a Job Shadow Day, where they explored career options aligned with their interests and future aspirations. This event was designed to give students a glimpse into the professional world, offering valuable hands-on experience and insights from professionals in various fields. Each student had the chance to shadow a mentor in a job that relates to their future career goals, whether they plan to enter the workforce directly after high school or pursue further education in college. From healthcare to engineering, business to technology, the students were able to observe professionals in action, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the skills and responsibilities required in different careers. The day was a resounding success, with students returning to school with a wealth of knowledge and a better sense of direction for their post-graduation plans. The Job Shadow Day not only helped students solidify their career choices but also provided them with valuable networking opportunities and the chance to develop a clearer picture of their future professional path. We are grateful to the local businesses and professionals who generously opened their doors to our students and helped make this event such a success. We also thank Ms. Kaylah Andrews, CTI Director, for working so hard to provide these types of opportunities to our students. We look forward to continuing to offer our CTI students opportunities that support their personal and professional growth.
